Sometimes life seems to conspire against us, and it can feel like everything is falling apart. The source of our stress may be something we can do nothing about, such as when a loved one passes away, or it could be something we can exert some control over. Either way, no matter how desperate our situation may seem to be, there are things is one way to keep in mind that can help you cope.
Positive thinking, or an optimistic attitude, is the practice of focusing on the good in any given situation. It can have a big impact on your physical and mental health. That doesn’t mean you ignore reality or make light of problems. It simply means you approach the good and the bad in life with the expectation that things will go well.
In the podcast from Mental Health America, the speakers try to practice positivity but they definitely struggle with it at times and so do many others. They talk about the effects of positive psychology and their personal interpretations of it, how they both have used post-it therapy and how they balance their dark senses of humor with positivity. If you’re working on being more positive, seek out the things that make you happy; find your joy.
