Yoga Therapy with Serena
April 7 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until April 7, 2021
In this 5 week therapeutic yoga class participants will be guided through breath, movement and meditation techniques to help bring awareness to the present moment. The focus of the session is to take an hour to get out of your head and tune into your body and sensations experienced in the here and now. Yoga therapy is accessible to everyone and no prior yoga experience is required.
Part of the yoga therapy training is to move with you in the first phase of the practice, and then to not move through the remainder with you as to intentionally hold space and give you the freedom to listen to your own body and what it’s saying, rather than trying to copy and imitate what the instructor is doing. This is one of the key differences between a regular yoga class and a yoga therapy facilitation. It is helpful to keep your camera on during the session so that the instructor can help guide you.
Serena is a Colorado native who completed her undergraduate degree in health science at Boise State University where she played D1 women’s soccer. She returned to Denver in 2013 to attend Regis University and complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Serena has worked as a physical therapist over the past five years, specializing in patients with neurological conditions. During her time working in the clinical setting, she began to observe the need for mental and emotional healing that repeatedly appeared for her patients when working with the physical body. Serena became drawn to study this mind-body connection and find a way to offer a more holistic approach to healing. This led Serena to discover Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. In October of 2019, she began the journey towards her 954 hour International Association of Yoga Therapists accreditation. Serena now leads group and individual yoga therapy sessions in different wellness and rehabilitation settings around Denver. In a therapeutic yoga class, participants are guided through breath, movement and meditation techniques to help bring awareness to the present moment. The focus of the session is to take an hour to solely focus on tuning into the body and sensations experienced in the here and now. Yoga therapy is accessible to everyone and no prior yoga experience is required.
