RE:Source Series: ‘Connecting in a COVID World”

Social support and connecting with others is a key factor to resiliency in general, and especially following traumatic experiences, and the COVID pandemic has hampered the ability to stay connected socially with others. This workshop will focus on the importance of social support and connecting with others, providing unique and creative ways to stay connected given the world we are currently living in.

Presented by National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center, Angela Moreland, Ph.D

Angela Moreland, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She serves as the Associate Director of the National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center (NMVVRC) and the Director of the Data Collection and Evaluation Division of the NMVVRC. Dr. Moreland held a leadership role on a policy project entitled Vision 21 through the Office of Victims of Crime at the Department of Justice, which focuses on transforming victim services to better meet the needs of trauma victims and their families. Dr. Moreland serves as the Director of the Center for Firefighter Behavioral Health, which provides resources and support to address behavioral health needs of firefighters.

 

She has expertise in evaluation of prevention and intervention programs targeting victims of interpersonal violence and traumatic events. Dr. Moreland has served as Evaluator of several large-scale longitudinal projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Office on Violence Against Women, SAHMSA, FEMA, the Duke Endowment, and the National Institutes of Health. In addition, Dr. Moreland held a leadership role on a policy project entitled Vision 21 through the Office of Victims of Crime at the Department of Justice, which focuses on transforming victim services to better meet the needs of trauma victims and their families. Finally, Dr. Moreland serves as the Director of the Center for Firefighter Behavioral Health, which provides resources and support to address behavioral health needs of firefighters. Dr. Moreland currently serves as the Associate Director of the National Mass Violence and Victimization Resource Center (NMVVRC), an OVC-funded initiate to evaluate previous response to mass violence incidences, as well as develop effective response for future mass violence events.
